Over 4,000 years ago people began to use pieces of terracotta for decorating their muddy floors. Some centuries later, in 400 BC, the Greeks brought this “pebble art” to a new level, creating depictions of their gods. Romans and Byzantines were also very active with this kind of decoration. With the invention of little glass tiles, mosaics could be more colorful and precise.
Presently glass mosaic tiles are used mostly by interior designers. Arno Coenen however brings the ancient art of mosaic to a new level.
